By Dom Smith

Newcastle based promotion, NORTH Wrestling are to host a special premiere screening of brand new documentary, Watch The Lights at Tyneside Cinema on 5 June 2024.

Watch the Lights is a riveting journey into the heart of NORTH, captured during the summer of 2023, with the company gearing up for their biggest show ever, Thunderstruck. The film takes us behind-the-scenes for a thrilling, funny, and often touching look at just what it takes to put on a professional wrestling show.

This special screening at Tyneside Cinema will be followed by a discussion with director Alex Ayre and a selection of eclectic characters from NORTH wrestling, including champion Leon Slater.

Due to phenomenal demand, the event has now moved to the biggest screen at Tyneside Cinema to accommodate as many fans as possible.

Independent Film Meets Independent Wrestling

North East filmmaker Alex Ayre has crafted a lively and soul-stirring documentary/love letter to independent wrestling in his hometown, and those who make it special. The film is guaranteed to awaken a curiosity in this wild and wacky world from anyone who experiences it.

“It’s a thrilling and characterful venture behind the scenes in the wild world of independent wrestling. But more than that, it’s a really touching journey of a group of passionate creatives striving to succeed in their own whacky medium.” said director of Watch The Lights, Alex Ayre.

“For those totally new to wrestling, it’ll awaken an appreciation and enthusiasm for the artform. And for wrestling fans (and NORTH Wrestling fans, in particular) it’ll bring you closer to those who work in the ring and outside of it.”

The documentary is sure to increase anticipation for NORTH Wrestling’s Thunderstruck 2, once again live from Walker Dome on 13 July 2024. The family friendly event will feature NORTH Champion Leon Slater, former WWE Superstar Elijah (fka Elias), Joe Hendry, Rhio and many more.
